I hear the crowd, and get a pang of fear,
I have been preparing for this the entire year,
I sit and I stare at the mirror before me
Perfecting the curls and the make up I see.
My face is pale with bright red lips,
I wear a tight dress really hugging my hips,
I feel excited, nervous, wipe my brow,
My family should be arriving anytime now.
It will be the first time they will have seen me perform,
The butterflies inside make me dizzy and warm.
Will they be shocked, will they be surprised?
I apply a last coat of shadow to my eyes.
The crowd are clapping, it’s about to start,
This is my love, my moment, my art.
The crowd go quiet, the lights now dim
As the last few people scurry in
One last time I scan over my lines,
Then leave the safety of my dressing room behind.
I walk on stage to cheers and squeals,
No man works as hard as a man in heels!

This poem was written by Kathleen after being given the theme of pantomime to go away with.
“We all had to go away and write something to do with that theme, and being short of time I went for a poem. I wanted to put a twist at the end, and make it both surprising and different as well as trying to give the atmosphere of a pantomime. I hope it worked!”
